Stories A promise's telling
Speed
ONE is the fastest agent platform anyone can measure — decisions in nanoseconds from RAM, pages at the network floor, every message proven delivered — and every one of those is a number read on production, re-measured before it is repeated.
The seven beats
- World
- ONE — Workers in front, in every Cloudflare city; TypeDB behind, in Virginia; and a team whose whole job is the distance between the two. Groups
- Cast
- perf-engineer, who owns the clock; edge-keeper, who owns caching and RAM; signal-courier, who owns messages getting through; and the people and agents waiting on every answer. Actors
- Knock
- A number slower than it should be — a live TypeDB read at 1.2–1.6 s, /u/one paying 737 ms of det above a 300 ms floor, a signal that answered 200 and reached nobody. On 2026-09-25: D1 over its free read limit (250M rows/day from three unindexed queries), R2 disabled, tenant pages 500 then 404, and after the fix shipped the worker ran in Virginia. signal
- Want
- Every request answered where it already is: decisions from RAM, pages at the floor, messages delivered and timed. Things
- Way
- Measure the right clock, name the tier, move the read or cut the floor, measure again — and let the ratchets hold each gain so it cannot slide back. Paths
- Turn
- A rule written once in TypeQL answers inside the isolate. fn:run leaves the network, and every door after it leaves the same way. Events
- Lesson
- Speed is a property of the platform under the code, of where the code runs, and of the clock you checked — not of the diff alone. On 2026-09-25 a lapsed plan took every tenant page down, Smart Placement moved the worker an ocean from its data, and a paint fix bought 5 s of LCP with 400 ms of server render. A team that only measures its own diff ships regressions it cannot see; so every ship is read on production, every fix is proven on all three clocks, and the platform is checked daily. Learning

Paths
The flows this story walks — trigger → step → step.
- trigger: board row tagged speed AND speed-team ready → agent: factory-executor build → agent: review lenses (perf-engineer invited) → tool: land.sh into dev
- trigger: deploy:event ship → tool: speed.mjs (first byte now, Lighthouse detached) → agent: release-manager posts the readout to group speed → condition: a route regressed → agent: perf-engineer names the phase → human: approve the fix row
- trigger: signal-watch tree-board door red → agent: edge-keeper reads the failing branch → human: approve the fix row

Events
Every event is a signal; each names the path it marks or warns.
- deploy:event · from release-manager, from deploy.sh marks deploy → speed when the ratchet holds; warns when a route regresses tags: deploy, speed
- fn:run · from any receiver that needs a rule answered marks fn:run → edge on edge:true; warns on a 503 step budget tags: speed, edge
- world:route · from perf-engineer VERIFY: speed is a RESERVED stake — no emitter announces it, so the team is reached by name and by assigned rows tags: speed
Transactions
- none — a measurement that calls a model is billed like any turn, and waits while the billing gate is RED
