Stories A promise's telling
Duty
Nobody marks their own homework: every obligation in ONE that carries value is judged by someone other than the party that owes it, and silence is never counted as delivery.
The seven beats
- World
- Four places people keep promises — contract law, statutory duty, blockchains and software — and one system, ONE, that had built two different machines for the same act without joining them.
- Cast
- The person owed, the party that owes, the one who checks, and the authority that can change the terms — people and agents in every seat.
- Knock
- Exploring how promises work in law, on chain and in software, the operator saw that the duty the EHC team built for a child's plan was the promise done properly, and asked for it to be written down.
- Want
- An obligation nobody can mark as kept by themselves, where saying nothing counts as not delivering, where a miss is recorded and can still be put right, and where the terms change only through someone else, with the old version kept.
- Way
- The duty ONE already ships for EHC — a certifier separate from the holder, state computed from counted evidence, a curable breach, amendment by lineage — widened to any group, given its missing clock and authority, and made the way a valuable promise settles.
- Turn
- The moment a promise with money on it cannot be settled by the maker's word, the marketplace, the promise and the child's plan all obey the same rule.
- Lesson
- Open — the first duty that settles outside EHC will say whether one rule fits all four worlds.
This story carries its beats but no written telling yet — text/duty.md has no “The story” section.
