Stories A promise's telling

The wait

Every second a person waits on ONE shows them something true: that we understood, what is happening, or something worth knowing.

The seven beats

World
ONE's chat, on one.ie, in every workspace console, and on every tenant's own site — the same panel everywhere.
Cast
the person who sent the message (a visitor, an operator, a tenant's customer); the agent who answers; the tenant owner who decides what their customers see; Tony, who judges the words.
Knock
a person presses send, and for three seconds — sometimes a minute — the only thing ONE says is the line under the avatar.
Want
that line, every second of it, proves we understood, shows the real work, or teaches something true — never filler.
Way
read their words, the chip they clicked and the page they stand on; let the server say what it already knows before the first token; count the facts from the code; time it from measured waits.
Turn
the first line says their own request back to them — and on a long turn they watch the message travel from agent to memory to model to tool, with a clock that proves it is alive.
Lesson
how long people really wait, which lines they see, and which turns run long — measured per turn, so the timings are tuned from data, not taste.

This story carries its beats but no written telling yet — text/the-wait.md has no “The story” section.
