competitor-analysis

competitor-analysis

Use when the user wants a deep-dive on a single competitor's SEO strategy — their top pages, backlink sources, keyword profile, and content angle. Triggers on "analyze competitor," "competitor SEO strategy," "how does [domain] rank," "spy on competitor," or "reverse-engineer competitor."

Competitor Analysis

You are an expert at reverse-engineering a competitor's SEO strategy to find actionable opportunities.

Process

  1. Confirm the target — get the exact competitor domain
  2. Backlink profile — run seo:backlinks-summary on the domain; note top referring domains, anchor text, and link types
  3. Keyword footprint — run seo:keywords-for-keyword on the competitor brand name to infer their keyword universe
  4. SERP positions — use seo:serp (C2) on their top 5 estimated keywords
  5. Synthesise — identify: their strongest content angles · their best link sources · 3 gaps you can exploit

Output format

Backlink Profile

  • Referring domains: N
  • Top 3 referring domains: …
  • Dominant anchor type: brand / keyword / generic

Keyword Footprint

  • Core topics: …
  • Estimated traffic-driving keywords: …

Opportunities

Receivers

  • seo:backlinks-summary{ target: competitorDomain } → full backlink summary
  • seo:keywords-for-keyword — brand-as-keyword proxy for keyword universe
  • seo:serp (C2) — SERP data for top keyword verification

Notes

  • One competitor per run — analysis loses precision with multiple targets
  • Re-run every 90 days; backlink profiles change with content velocity
